ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

My priorities include creating a fully sustainable economic development ecosystem in Opelika. This commitment means that I will work to recruit industries to Opelika while creating opportunities to ensure that these recruitment efforts benefit small and large businesses that have already invested in and are thriving in Opelika.

Why this Approach?

When we approach economic development through the lens of universal benefit, we not only diversify our industrial environment and tax revenue, but we also allow local companies to create onramps for supplemental services, employees, and products. A broad approach to economic development ensures that all of the talents of our citizens have an opportunity to move Opelika forward. This includes those who are both college- and work-bound.

Evidence of Progress.

• Collaborative Economic Development Board that leverages the insights and resources of both the City of Opelika and local entrepreneurs, educators, and business influencers.

• A Navigator Program that provides large industries with on-demand access to supply chain support and supplemental services.

GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY

As mayor, I will expand opportunities for civic engagement. Our government is designed for, and by, the people we serve. When all of our citizens have a chance to participate in moving Opelika forward and understand how and why we make decisions, we create a more informed citizenry and more transparent leadership.

Why this Approach?

By making opportunities to serve on city boards and agencies more apparent, I will inspire new leaders to emerge from across all of Opelika. The more leaders we have in our city and the more informed our citizenry becomes, the greater the accountability will be as we work to advance Opelika.

Evidence of Progress.

• Measurable increase in the number of leaders who raise their hands to serve on boards, committees, and agencies that report to the City of Opelika.

• Increased participation at board meetings and City Council meetings.

• Measurable increase in civic engagement via the development of new boards and agencies to accommodate increased leadership demand.

EDUCATION

Education is an investment. It's an investment in our youth, our communities, and our future. I will continue to be a vocal and visible advocate for Opelika City Schools. As a parent of children who attend Opelika City Schools, I understand our opportunities. I will use my platform as mayor to advocate that even more resources be provided to Opelika City Schools annually.

By being a vocal, visible, and passionate partner in Opelika City Schools, I will contribute to creating a learning environment that promotes academic and extracurricular success while promoting Opelika as an ideal place for the best and brightest.

As mayor, I will be an active partner in:

• Promoting Opelika to teachers and administrators across the U.S. as an ideal place to work, live, and thrive.

• Advocating for an increase in the budget that the City of Opelika allocates to Opelika City Schools.

• Supplying influence to ensure that our teachers, students, administrators, and staff are supplied with best-in-class resources and equipment.
